Basic fundamental research, applied research and contributing to public understanding of science. Those are the three legs of our research group. By developing the projects mentioned below, my graduate students, post-doctoral associates and myself try to apply our experience on solid state chemistry and electrochemistry to the development of materials and devices for energy storage and conversion.

Research on.....
What materials?. Hybrid organic-inorganic nanocomposite materials, made with conducting polymers or biopolymers and all sorts of inorganic components, from extended solids to nanoclusters to molecular species. Electroactive oxides. Complex layered perovskites.Unprecedented Silver-Copper oxides (Ag2Cu2O3).  Proton conducting polymers Polyoxometalates as models for oxide quantum-dots
What devices?. Energy storage and conversion. Polymer fuel cells (PEM, Proton-exchange membrane). Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Rechargeable lithium batteries (preferably thin and plastic). Electrochemical Supercapacitors
Finally, public understanding of science and popular science writing on a wide variety of topics:  http://www.cienciateca.com
